Welcome to the Korea-Australia Business Council.
Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1961, Korea and Australia have grown as partners, aligned to the shared values of liberal democracy and market economy. In 2021, the two economies celebrated 60 years of bilateral relations.
Underpinned by mutually beneficial and complementary trade ties, exchange between Korea and Australia has grown exponentially. For instance, bilateral trade volume rose consistently from U$5 million (1965) to U$27 billion in 2010 and then to U$50.6 billion in 2023.
The remarkable outcome of bilateral economic cooperation is attributable to the business leaders of both countries who contributed generously to seek mutual and shared prosperity. The Council has been instrumental to keeping the strong momentum by organizing joint annual meetings consistently since its formation in 1978.
To capitalize on the success of the past 60 years and to fuel another 60 years of prosperity, business leaders are tasked with the mission to keep existing avenues of cooperation in motion while identifying new opportunities for collaboration in future growth industries, such as in hydrogen, critical minerals, mobility infrastructure and defense.
I hope that the Council can continue to serve as an open forum that invites greater engagement and broader exchange. I look forward to your generous attention and support to the goals and commitments of the Korea-Australia Business Council.
Thank you.
